Students get free milk packs
YOGYAKARTA: A leading food processing and packing company has
launched a campaign to encourage drinking milk in elementary
schools and has secured the services of world class badminton
player Ricky Soebagdja as its campaign ambassador.
Along with milk drinking, PT Tetra Pak Indonesia is
encouraging people to make use of their community's self-managed
health clinics (or Posyandu).
Some 60,000 packs of UHT-packed milk will be distributed
during September and October to elementary school students at 11
selected elementary schools in the city and to pregnant and
breastfeeding mothers through selected Posyandu.
ak Indonesia communications director Mignonne NB Maramis
Akiyama said the campaign was aimed at providing education to the
public about the importance of regularly consuming milk for both
school children and pregnant or breast-feeding mothers.
"Such a campaign is important especially because the country's
milk consumption figure is low, at (an average of) only seven
liters per person per year, while that of Malaysia, for example,
is 21 liters per person per year," Akiyama said.
The campaign in Yogyakarta is the company's third in Java. The
first and second were in the East Java cities of Surabaya and
Malang in March and May, respectively. --JP
