A group of students staging a demonstration to mark the second anniversary of the Prabowo Subianto–Gibran Rakabuming administration displayed a banner of demands at Tugu Tani in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (20 October) afternoon.

According to observations at the scene, demonstrators initially took turns giving speeches around Tugu Tani before gathering directly beneath the monument. One protester then tried to climb it.

Another demonstrator followed, and the two put up a banner setting out the protest’s demands.

Meanwhile, other students sang “Tanah Airku” and chanted together: “Revolution, revolution, revolution.”

The banner listed five demands: declaring forest and land fires a national disaster and restoring damaged ecosystems; improving economic policymaking to tackle persistent social inequality; ending the shrinking of civic space and militarisation; eradicating corruption, collusion and nepotism; and reducing education costs and establishing an education system that serves the people.

After putting up the banner, the students read out their demands and began dispersing from Tugu Tani.
