Students dead in Vietnam crash
VIETNAM: Seven teenagers were killed and 14 injured when a
minibus carrying 22 high school students collided head-on with a
truck in southern Vietnam, police said on Sunday.
The high-speed crash happened on Saturday on the country's
main north-south highway in Dong Nai province, when the truck
encroached onto the other side of the road while trying to
overtake, said a local traffic policeman.
Six students of between 16 and 17 years old were killed
instantly while another died later in hospital. Fourteen others
were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police detained the bus driver for investigation. The truck
driver sped off after the accident, but turned himself in on
Sunday.
More than 11,800 people were killed in traffic accidents last
year in Vietnam. -- AFP
