Students condemn foreign NGOs

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Hundreds of students occupied the office of state-run Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) in Banda Aceh on Thursday, and demanded the radio air their condemnation of foreign NGOs accused of converting tsunami survivors to Christianity.

The protesters, from the Muslim Student Association, demanded that they be allowed to make a live broadcast to read out their complaints. They also demanded the Aceh Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency expel the NGOs in question.

The students claimed 17 people in Banda Aceh had been converted from Islam to Christianity since the tsunami. Earlier in the day, the students held a protest in Simpang Lima in the heart of Banda Aceh. -- Antara
