Students blast price hikes

SEMARANG, Central Java: Hundreds of students from the Indonesian Muslim Students Association (KAMMI) staged a demonstration outside the provincial governor's office, protesting the hike of gasoline prices and the basic electricity rate.

The students demanded that the local administration convey their aspirations to the central government to delay or annul the decisions to hike all prices, saying the commodities were basic needs of the people.

In a heavy downpour of rain, the students marched to the nearby provincial council on Jl. Pahlawan in Semarang and continued their rally outside the building. (har)
