Students at SDN Kebayoran Lama 09 Forced to Study in Prayer Room and Field After School Building Collapse

Teaching and learning activities at SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, have been forced to utilise other facilities after the school building collapsed. The prayer room and school field are being used as locations for learning activities. Parent Evi Afrida stated that the use of the prayer room and field typically occurs during the day on certain occasions. She noted that before the building collapsed, parents had no suspicions regarding the condition of the structure, as the school had only undergone minor repairs and had never received a comprehensive renovation. The last renovation only involved the roof and the installation of lightweight steel frames. She expressed hope that the rebuilding process would commence soon so that students can return to learning in a safe and comfortable environment. The current situation has left parents anxious, especially as plans for the school’s reconstruction are perceived to be taking too long. Part of the SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 Pagi building collapsed on 27 November 2024, during the regional elections, affecting four classrooms and one School Health Unit room. The building reportedly collapsed gradually after heavy rain fell in the area that afternoon. No fatalities occurred in the incident. Since the collapse, parents have continuously sought certainty from the school regarding the continuation of the building’s construction, but they have yet to receive clarity on when the school will be rebuilt. Evi hopes the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government can assist in rebuilding the school to provide students with a safer, more comfortable, and proper learning environment. She also mentioned that the students’ Quran recitation activities have been postponed due to the building’s collapse.
