Students against New Order?
Students against New Order?
From Koran Tempo
A number of students have lodged protests with the General
Elections Commission (KPU) against the return of New Order
forces, which, according to the protesters, has been indicated by
the KPU's compromises with New Order exponents.
The demo has shown that some students do not understand the
workings of our state affairs. If the political rights of Siti
Hardiyanti (Mbak Tutut as she is familiarly addressed) or her
father, former president Soeharto, were supposed to have been
abolished, they should have challenged the government, the
Attorney General, the police and the Supreme Court.
The students should have questioned why there had been no
legal action against New Order figures. They should also have
asked other political parties why they were only thinking of
their own position and power, without indicating any intention to
solve the nation's crucial problems.
