Student Who Fatally Struck Police Officer in Bandung Named Suspect

The Greater Bandung Police have named a university student, identified only as A, as a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run on Jalan Merdeka, Bandung, in the early hours of Sunday, 9 August 2026, which resulted in the death of Police Officer Aiptu Asep Suhara. Greater Bandung Police Chief Dedi Supriyadi stated that the officer was struck while returning home from patrol. The suspect had been driving a sedan belonging to a member of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, which he had borrowed to buy cigarettes after leaving a café. Police clarified that the suspect struck the officer’s motorcycle from behind. Using CCTV footage, witness statements, and traffic accident analysis, investigators were able to reconstruct the sequence of events and correct false narratives circulating on social media.
