A student with the initials R (24) has been named as a suspect in the case of the attack on a female student at the Sultan Syarif Kasim Islamic University (UIN Suska Riau), on Thursday, 26 February 2026.

The victim, named Farradhilla Ayu Pramesti (23), a student at the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Suska Riau, was attacked on the head and arm by a student believed to be her boyfriend.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pekanbaru Police, AKP Anggi Rian Diansyah, said that the suspect has been secured for further legal proceedings. “The suspect has been detained at the Binawidya Police Station,” said Anggi.

The victim is currently still undergoing intensive treatment at the Bhayangkara Hospital in Pekanbaru.

According to doctors, the victim’s injuries are quite severe, so she may be referred to another hospital.

“The victim suffered injuries to the head and hand. The injuries are quite deep, so she has to be referred to a more adequate hospital. However, we are still coordinating with the hospital to see if there are any other injuries besides the two points,” said AKP Anggi.

The incident occurred when the victim was alone in a room on the second floor of the faculty building, while waiting for her exam schedule, on Thursday, 26 February 2026, at around 08.00 WIB. Suddenly, the perpetrator came carrying an axe and immediately attacked the victim.

The incident immediately shocked the academic community and the public after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

One of the students, Dimas, said that the incident occurred when the victim was waiting for her turn to present her proposal in the Sharia and Law Faculty room.

“Initially, the victim was waiting for her proposal presentation in the Faculty of Sharia and Law. We were studying in the next room. When we looked out, we saw the perpetrator attacking the victim in front of the room. We didn’t dare to help because the perpetrator was carrying an axe,” he said.

According to him, campus security then arrived and managed to secure the perpetrator when he was about to launch the sharp weapon towards the victim.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pekanbaru Police, AKP Anggi Rian Diansyah, when confirmed, said that the perpetrator had been secured at the Binawidya Police Station along with evidence in the form of an axe and a machete used in the incident.
