UIN Walisongo Semarang, Central Java, has dishonourably dismissed a student suspected of embezzling dozens of motorcycles.

The Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation at UIN Walisongo Semarang, Umul Baroroh, confirmed the dismissal of the student, identified by the initials IM (23), in Semarang on Wednesday.

“The individual has been officially dismissed as a student due to committing a serious ethical violation,” she stated.

According to Baroroh, the individual had been inactive and had failed to pay tuition fees for two consecutive semesters.

She explained that the case came to light following reports from students who were victims of the motorcycle embezzlement, which were subsequently forwarded to the university.

She noted that an investigation team worked from 2nd to 5th May 2024 to gather evidence and delve into the case.

Before the dismissal decision was issued, she added that UIN Semarang first convened an Ethics Committee session.

Based on further tracking, the student’s academic advisor also confirmed that the individual had been missing for four semesters and had failed to participate in academic advising sessions.

She added that UIN Walisongo Semarang is leaving the entire legal process regarding this criminal act of embezzlement to the police and supports the enforcement of justice for the victims.

Previously, police arrested a student in Semarang, Central Java, suspected of embezzling dozens of motorcycles using a scheme involving renting vehicles for a motor vehicle rental business. The suspect has allegedly embezzled approximately 40 motorcycles, 25 of which have been reported to the police.
