Student shot dead in E. Jakarta brawl

JAKARTA (JP): A student of a state vocational high school was shot dead during a brawl on Jl. D.I. Pandjaitan, East Jakarta, on Saturday morning.

Alfian Rusjadi, 16, of SMK 5 high school, collapsed with a wound to his forehead after police tried to break up the clash between students of SMK 5 and a rival school.

East Jakarta Police detectives chief Maj. Alex Malingka confirmed the incident and said officers were investigating the case, particularly the shooting.

Alfian's body was sent to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for an autopsy.

In the afternoon, dozens of mobile brigade police officers were forced to fire warning shots into the air in an attempt to stop a brawl between two groups of vocational high school students on Jl. Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta.

Students of nearby Bina Sarana Informatika computer college joined in after their school was hit by stones.

Police officers managed to disperse them after an hour and a half.

No injuries were reported and there were no arrests. (jun)
