Student robbing way through college

JAKARTA: A second-year economics student at Gunadarma University was arrested on Thursday evening on suspicion of robbery.

Police said the suspect, identified as Rudy Hartono, and an accomplice, Michael Albert, usually targeted female car drivers.

"They operated from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Jl. Bekasi Raya in East Jakarta," city police chief of detectives Sr. Comr. Mathius Salempang said on Friday.

Another suspected accomplice, Rio, is still at large.

Rudy, whose parents live in Lampung, said he robbed drivers so he could pay his tuition, because the money his parents sent him did not cover his expenses.

Michael said he and Rio used their share of the money to buy alcohol. -- JP
