Feri Bin Dg Rumpa (33), the perpetrator of the kidnapping and rape of a student, initialled MA (21), in Makassar, South Sulawesi, threatened the victim with a knife while carrying out his crime. The perpetrator also covered the victim’s eyes and mouth with tape.

“The perpetrator entered the victim’s room and then carried out violence and threatened the victim with a knife to rape her,” said Makassar Police Chief Kombes Arya Perdana to reporters on Sunday (17/5).

Arya explained that the rape occurred on the third day the victim was in the house rented by the perpetrator. The victim could not resist because she was threatened with a sharp weapon.

“The victim was then held captive, her mouth and eyes were taped shut, and then she was raped several times,” he said.

According to Arya, the victim was tricked into applying for a babysitting job offered by the perpetrator on social media. The perpetrator asked the victim to wait before being officially employed.

“The victim came, and then it was said that to work at that place, she still had to wait a few days,” he said.

“While waiting, the victim worked in the house for about two days as a domestic helper,” added Arya.

Arya stated that the location of the kidnapping and rape was a house rented by the perpetrator. The house was rented by the perpetrator for three days.

“This person, whose residence is in Makassar, does not rent a house on a monthly basis; he pays per day at Rp 300 thousand and uses it to trap people,” he explained.

The perpetrator is currently still being questioned further after being arrested. So far, the police have not found any indication of human trafficking behind the perpetrator’s actions.

“For indications of human trafficking, there are none for now. The perpetrator’s modus operandi is to persuade victims through fake job advertisements,” said Arya.

It is known that the victim was held captive and raped in a housing complex on Jalan Metro Tanjung Bunga, Barombong Village, Tamalate District from Friday (8/5) to Sunday (10/5). The perpetrator had fled but was arrested at the Port of Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday (16/5).

Student Victim of Kidnapping Comes From Nunukan

A local resident, initialled IK, said that the victim came from Nunukan, North Kalimantan. The woman is a student who studies in Makassar.

“Yes (the victim comes from North Kalimantan), that’s what it says on her ID card, bordering Nunukan,” said IK to reporters.

The female student was allegedly a victim of fraud involving a job offer as a babysitter. The perpetrator took advantage of the victim’s need for tuition fees.

“He (the perpetrator) posted (a job advertisement) on social media looking for a babysitter with a promised salary of Rp 3 million. The victim was interested because she needed money to pay for college,” he said.

Before the police arrived at the location, residents first took the initiative to save the victim in the house rented by the perpetrator. The victim cried while being evacuated with her hands tied.

“So, the owner of the house went to check on the person who rented it; when he was about to open the door to the house, this woman appeared from inside the house and was seen from the window,” he said.
