Student Protest Planned, Public Advised to Avoid Bundaran HI Area
The University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Board (BEM UI) plans to hold a protest in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (12/6/2026). The action is being staged in response to the current economic situation.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, has asked the public to anticipate travel disruptions and avoid certain roads. The protest is expected to cause traffic congestion in several areas.
“Roads potentially affected include Jalan Jenderal Sudirman (in front of the BRI Head Office), Jalan Kebon Sirih (in front of the BGN Office), Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan (the City Hall, Monas, and Gambir area), and the UNJ Campus area,” Budi said on Friday.
He stated that his agency has prepared 300 personnel at strategic points, particularly in the Sudirman–Thamrin corridor. The agency is also continuously coordinating with the Police and DKI Jakarta Satpol PP to monitor and secure activities on the ground.
“We urge the public to plan their journeys carefully and use alternative routes if passing through the activity location. Transportation Agency officers have been placed on standby to help manage traffic so that public mobility remains safe, smooth, and comfortable,” Budi said.
Meanwhile, Head of the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, said his office has deployed 500 Satpol PP personnel to support security during the event. According to him, his party will strive to ensure the protest proceeds in an orderly manner.
“We are also continuously coordinating with the Police, the Transportation Agency, and other relevant agencies to ensure public activities continue to run well,” Satriadi said.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to monitor the situation on the ground with relevant elements and convey the latest information to the public through official channels of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, and the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP. The public is urged to comply with the instructions of officers in the field, be careful when driving, and adjust travel routes to avoid traffic congestion around the activity location.
It is known that the action initiated by BEM UI is scheduled to take place at 13.00 in the Bundaran HI area. In the protest, there are five points that form the students’ demands: stop the waste of the state budget (APBN), lower the prices of basic necessities and fuel, halt the MBG programme and the construction of the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih, stop militarism in the civilian sphere, and ask Prabowo to stop evading and admit his mistakes.
