Student Protest Outside UKI Campus in Cawang Causes Traffic Congestion

A group of students staged a protest in front of the Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI) campus in East Jakarta, causing traffic congestion. Based on viral social media posts seen by detikcom on Wednesday (17/6/2026), the crowd demonstrated on the road shoulder and were observed burning tyres. The action resulted in traffic jams in the area. According to Google Maps monitoring at 18.10 WIB, the Cawang area near the UKI campus was congested, indicated by a red line. East Jakarta Traffic Unit Head Kompol Harnas Prihandito stated that the students were expressing their opinions in public in front of their campus. He confirmed that traffic conditions were not completely gridlocked and were still moving. ‘Only heavy, still flowing, not totally jammed. At 17.45 WIB they dispersed, traffic flow returned to normal, the students dispersed in an orderly manner,’ he said.
