Student Protest Disperses, Traffic Around Parliament Building Returns to Normal
A student demonstration in front of the MPR/DPR RI building in Central Jakarta has dispersed. Traffic has now returned to normal.
According to monitoring at the location on Friday (19/6/2026), the students began to disperse around 8:05 PM WIB. They left after Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, met them at the protest site.
The students sang ‘Sayonara’ before dispersing on foot towards Jalan Pemuda. They left the area in a group, forming a barricade as they walked.
Traffic on Jalan Gatot Subroto in front of the Parliament complex returned to normal at approximately 8:25 PM WIB. Roads that had been previously diverted were reopened, allowing vehicles from the Cawang direction heading towards Slipi to pass through once again.
Earlier, Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad met with the protesting students in front of the Parliament building. He even climbed onto a command vehicle and explained what had been discussed with student representatives for approximately 1.5 hours inside the Parliament building.
“Long live students, long live students, long live the people of Indonesia,” Dasco shouted from atop the command vehicle on Friday (19/6).
“Brothers and sisters, fellow students, we have just conducted an audience, receiving the aspirations from friends who are representatives of all of you,” he continued.
Dasco stated that his party had heard all the students’ demands. He also immediately contacted the relevant parties to ensure the students’ aspirations were conveyed.
“We have directly conveyed several aspirations by telephone to the executive branch, both the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Head of the National Nutrition Agency, and they listened directly to our aspirations,” he said.
Dasco emphasised that his party would ensure the follow-up of the aspirations conveyed. They have received everything presented, both from the protest action and during discussions with the representatives.
