Student Killed in Gang Clash in South Jakarta, Four Arrested
A student with the initials MFR was killed in a brawl between the Salak and Kujang gangs in Rawajati, Pancoran, South Jakarta. Four suspects have been arrested by the police.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 14 June 2026, at around 2.30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. The victim and a friend were initially smoking and drinking coffee at Tanjakan Cililitan Kecil, East Jakarta, before being invited by members of the Salak gang to join the fight.
Before departing, the victim was given a yellow sickle by an unidentified member of the Salak group, according to AKP Teddy Rohendi, head of the unit, during a press conference at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Thursday, 9 July.
Upon arriving at the location around 4.48 a.m., the group from Cililitan and Salak gangs, numbering about 20 people, confronted the Kujang Mampang and Motekar gangs, estimated to be over 30 strong. Both sides attacked each other with sharp weapons.
A witness, identified by the initials GS, was struck by a weapon believed to be a corbek from the opposing side. After being injured, GS threw his sickle forward and fled the scene. He later saw the victim, MFR, running while covered in blood.
Both left the location on a friend’s motorbike to seek medical treatment at Budi Asih Regional General Hospital in East Jakarta, where MFR was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have named three minors, with the initials APK, AFF, and RSR, as offenders, along with an adult suspect named Dimas Nanda Pamungkas. Evidence seized includes a corbek belonging to AFF, a corbek belonging to APK, a long sickle belonging to RSR, and a bow and arrow belonging to Dimas Nanda Pamungkas.
The suspects are charged under Article 472 and/or Article 307 paragraph 1 and/or Article 262 and/or Article 466 paragraph 3 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. The three juvenile offenders have reached the second stage of the legal process, while the adult suspect remains in detention at the police station.
