Student killed for trying to help his attacked mother

JAKARTA (JP): A Karunia senior high school student died as he was rushed to hospital while his mother remains in the emergency ward at Husada Hospital, West Jakarta, after two men attacked them at their house on Sunday afternoon.

Roslina, 50, was in a critical condition after suffering several stab wounds.

Her son Tarmuji, 19, died en route to the hospital. His body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue awaiting an autopsy.

It is believed that Tarmuji died from at least six stab wounds.

Sawah Besar subprecinct police chief Adj. Comr. Agus Sulistiyo said police detained two suspects identified as Dedy, 27 and Rendy, 21, three hours after the incident.

"Based on the suspects testimony, we assume that the motive behind the murder is revenge," Agus informed journalists.

According to Agus, Dedy had worked for Ari Johanes, Tarmuji's father until the business went bankrupt. He came to the house in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, accompanied by Rendy to demand Rp 1 million in unpaid salary.

But upon their arrival they were met by Roslina who told them that her husband was out of town.

They then got into a dispute when Dedy demanded she hand over the money.

Dedy then stabbed Roslina with a knife several times while Rendy hit her with a hammer.

Tarmuji rushed into the room when he heard his mother's screams.

Dedy quickly struck Tarmuji with a machete.

The two suspects then ran away after neighbors began to get suspicious.

According to police, Ari ran a lottery gambling business which recently went bankrupt.

Tarmuji's uncle Rusli said at the morgue that Roslina had not been told about the death of her son.

He added that since Ari's business went bankrupt, his sister, Roslina, tried to support the family by selling clothes. (01)
