Student jumps from 5th floor to death

JAKARTA (JP): A Sahid University student jumped to his death on Saturday from the fifth floor of the privately run university building on Jl. Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta.

Witnesses said the situation was quiet when the student, identified as Firdaus Hakiki, 24, jumped at about 11:45 a.m.

They said Firdaus died on the spot due to severe head injuries and broken legs and hands.

His body was immediately sent to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue for a postmortem examination.

Tebet Police questioned Firdaus' girlfriend, identified as C. January. She was believed to be on the same floor and saw her boyfriend jump, a police officer said.

The officer said that it was still unclear why Firdaus decided to end his life.

"January is still in shock so we could not ask many questions," said the officer, who asked for anonymity. (jun)
