I am deeply concerned about the death of Zaki Tifan Lazuardian during initiation week at the Bandung Institute of Technology. This tarnishes the reputation of the institution which has produced many leaders and reputable scientists.

I can hardly believe that such thing could happen on the institute's campus. The students of this institution are known for their resoluteness demonstrating against injustice, human rights abuses and pollution.

Although I didn't attend the institution, I am proud of its highly reputable alumni. I therefore ask the government to stop student initiation programs. They only trample human dignity. The students of today will be our leaders tomorrow.
