Student in West Jakarta Dies After Sudden Machete Attack on Road, 3 Perpetrators Arrested
A student with the initials AH died after being the victim of a machete attack while riding a motorbike in the Grogol area, West Jakarta. Three teenagers who carried out the attack have been arrested.
Grogol Petamburan Police Chief AKP Reza Aditya stated that the three suspects detained are KK (17), ADS (16), and MA (17). Meanwhile, another perpetrator with the initial R is still being pursued.
“Of the 3 suspects detained, 2 have been named as perpetrators, namely KK (17) and R (17),” Reza said in a statement on Saturday (20/6/2026).
The case was reported after the victim AH suffered serious machete wounds as a result of an assault carried out by a group of teenagers armed with sharp weapons. The incident began on Thursday (7/5) when the victim and his friend, JN, were riding a motorbike in the Jalan Susilo I area.
The two then crossed paths with a group of teenagers conducting a convoy. Without any clear reason, the group chased and attacked the victim using sharp weapons.
The victim suffered a slash wound on his left hand. While trying to escape, the victim was attacked again, sustaining a slash wound on his waist.
In his injured state, the victim managed to run and seek help from residents and an online motorcycle taxi driver. The victim was then rushed to Sumber Waras Hospital.
After undergoing treatment for approximately 14 days, the victim was allowed to return home. However, a few days later, his health condition deteriorated until he was finally pronounced dead.
“So this is not a robbery case, but rather a case of abuse and assault between student groups,” he clarified.
Head of Criminal Investigation AKP Alexander Tengbunan added that the perpetrators were detained on Monday (15/6) in the early hours in the Kota Bambu Selatan area, Palmerah, West Jakarta. The perpetrators did not resist and were immediately taken to the Grogol Petamburan Police Station for further examination.
In this case, the police seized evidence including a mobile phone, clothing worn during the incident, and the sharp weapon suspected to have been used to injure the victim.
For their actions, the suspects are charged under Article 468 paragraph (2) and/or Article 262 paragraph (4) of the Criminal Code concerning grievous bodily harm resulting in death and/or assault.
