Police are investigating an alleged assault case involving a student, AJ (16), at the Ma’had Imam Asy-Syafi’i Islamic boarding school in Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi, allegedly committed by two teaching staff, AD (21) and R.

“Yes, the case is currently under our investigation,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Sidrap Police, AKP Welfrick Krisyana Ambarita, to CNNIndonesia.com on Thursday (9 July).

Welfrick explained that the incident occurred on Tuesday (23 June) at around 23.30 Central Indonesia Time, beginning when the suspected perpetrators called the victim out of the dormitory and assaulted him in front of the students’ dormitory.

“Based on the police report we received, the complainant stated that initially the suspected perpetrators called the victim out of the dormitory towards the veranda. Upon arrival at the veranda, the suspected perpetrators then turned off the veranda light and committed an act of violence against the victim,” he said.

As a result of the incident, Welfrick said, the student suffered bruises to his eye and right cheek. The family, displeased with the actions of the suspected perpetrators, reported the case to the police.

“Yes, the victim sustained injuries,” he said.

Police have now taken statements from several witnesses as well as both suspected perpetrators.

“Yes, we have examined them and obtained their statements,” he said.
