A university student with the initials LA (20) in the Graha Indah housing complex area of Samarinda, East Kalimantan, became the victim of a shooting while returning from his studies. Police have detained the perpetrator, identified by the initials MZ (22), on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Bukit Raya Village, Tenggarong Seberang District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. “Based on the investigation and witness statements, the suspect is alleged to have committed assault using an air rifle against the victim,” said Samarinda Police Public Relations Head Ipda Arie Soeharyadi, as reported by detikKalimantan on Monday (15/6/2026). The incident occurred on Jalan P Suryanata, Graha Indah Housing Complex, Air Putih Village, Samarinda Ulu District, on Friday (12/6) at 10.25 pm Central Indonesian Time. During initial questioning, MZ admitted to his actions. Although the perpetrator has been detained, police are still investigating the reasons behind the shooting. Investigators are currently continuing to examine the suspect and witnesses to uncover the perpetrator’s motive. Police subsequently seized a number of pieces of evidence, including a homemade CPC 4000 type air rifle, ammunition, spent projectiles, the clothing worn by the perpetrator, and the victim’s medical examination results. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head and is currently undergoing medical treatment.
