Student in Pati Allegedly Victim of Bullying, Resulting in Loss of Two Fingers

A Year 7 student at an MTS school in the Margorejo District, Pati Regency, has allegedly been the victim of bullying by older students, resulting in the loss of two fingers on their left hand. The bullying is suspected to have been triggered by mutual insults regarding parents’ names.

Legal counsel for the victim from LBH Garda Muda Nusantara Pati Branch, Catur Andi Cahments, stated that the incident was officially reported to the authorities on Saturday (1/8). Catur noted that the alleged bullying occurred at the MTS school in Margorejo on Monday (27/7) following the midday Zuhur prayer.

According to Catur, the victim and three suspected perpetrators were involved in an altercation following verbal taunts. The victim attempted to flee to a classroom for protection but was pursued and assaulted by the three older students. The victim then ran towards a metal fence near the toilets and ablution area, where the assault continued. In an attempt to climb the approximately two-metre-high fence, the victim’s hand became trapped, leading to the amputation of two fingers and a fracture to another.

Catur revealed that one severed finger was left on the fence and was initially instructed by a teacher to be buried within the school grounds. While the victim’s condition has improved following hospital treatment, efforts to reattach the fingers in Solo were unsuccessful due to infection from the soil.

The victim has since provided a statement to the Pati Police. As of now, the Head of Criminal Investigation at Pati Police, Commissioner Dika Hadian Widya, has not provided further comment. Conversely, the Head of the MTS school, Safi’i, maintains that the incident was not bullying but a pure accident with no element of intent.
