Student dies during Red Cross training

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: An 18-year old senior high school student, believed to have been drowned in the Batimurung Maros river, South Sulawesi on Monday, is still missing.

A joint search and rescue team from the state-owned University of Hasanuddin, the local Red Cross and the police was still looking for Iswadi.

Iswadi was taking part in a Red Cross training exercise. His disappearance was first noted after a villager reported that he had seen a pair of sandals belonging to the victim on the riverbank.

He has since been declared to have been drowned.

Having heard the information, students and teachers from Iswadi's school began searching for the victim.--Antara.
