Student detained over fatal stabbing
Police have detained a junior high school student for allegedly killing one of his peers over a football match.
Ivan Untako, 18, is being detained after reportedly having stabbed Jufrin William, 16, a junior high school student who resided in the Cendrawasih dormitory in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.
"The police have not yet been able to obtain information from the suspect as he is still drunk," Lt. Col. A. Latief Rabar, spokesman of the city police, said yesterday.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on Jl. Awaluddin I, Tanah Abang.
According to the police, earlier that day the victim played in a football match in which his team beat Ivan's team. It was suspected that Ivan bore grudges over the loss and took revenge by stabbing Jufrin in the abdomen, the police said.
The police have confiscated a knife from the suspect. (jsk)
