Student Demonstration in Central Jakarta Proceeds Peacefully, Police Distribute Bread and Mineral Water
A crowd from the Islamic Student Organisation held a protest in the Monas Intersection area, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta. The demonstration, which lasted until the afternoon, ended peacefully.
Amidst the security for the protest, police personnel prioritised humane service while escorting the crowd. As a gesture of care, personnel also distributed bread and packaged mineral water to the crowd from the Central Leadership of Perisai Syarikat Islam and the Greater Jakarta Islamic Youth Movement (GPI).
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Pol Reynold Hutagalung, stated that the security was not merely to maintain a conducive situation but also as a form of Indonesian National Police service to the public expressing aspirations publicly. Therefore, field personnel were directed to prioritise a humane approach and good communication with protest participants.
“Polda Metro Jaya is present to ensure that community aspiration activities can proceed safely, orderly, and smoothly. In every protest security operation, we emphasise to all personnel to prioritise service, a humane approach, and good communication with protest participants,” said Reynold in his statement on Thursday (8/4/2026).
The demonstration, attended by around 50 participants, ended peacefully. Meanwhile, Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort deployed 157 personnel to escort the action.
The crowd dispersed in an orderly and peaceful manner. Senior Commissioner Reynold affirmed that the event proceeded safely and under control throughout.
He also urged the public to maintain order when expressing aspirations. The public is advised to contact the Indonesian National Police’s 110 call centre if assistance is needed.
