Student Demonstration at Monas Today, 4,132 Joint Personnel on Standby

A mass of demonstrators representing the People’s Struggle Assembly Alliance will stage a protest near the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta today. A total of 4,132 joint personnel have been placed on standby. Central Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head Iptu Erlyn Sumantri stated the demonstration will be held by the People’s Struggle Assembly Alliance, a coalition comprising the student executive bodies (BEM) of UNJ, Trilogi University, STIAMI Institute, and Paramadina University. Additionally, the Banten Rising Activists Coalition will also hold a demonstration. Erlyn said joint police personnel from the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Central Jakarta Metro Police, and precinct-level police have been deployed to secure the demonstration. The protest is planned for 1 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. “Security for the demonstration by the People’s Struggle Assembly Alliance (a coalition of BEM UNJ, BEM Trilogi University, BEM STIAMI Institute, BEM Paramadina University) in the Monas area, with the activity planned for 1 p.m. WIB,” Erlyn said in a written statement. In addition, officers have been stationed at several points to anticipate other demonstrations. Officers will implement situational traffic management at the protest site, taking into account the number of participants on the ground. The public is also urged to avoid the area around the demonstration to prevent traffic congestion.
