Student Demonstration at Bundaran HI: Traffic Diverted

Students held a demonstration on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

Hundreds of students staged the protest on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (18/8/2026), causing the road access towards Bundaran HI to be closed.

Observations at the location around 16:45 WIB showed police officers still forming a barricade in front of UOB Plaza, preventing students from continuing their movement towards Bundaran HI.

Meanwhile, traffic from Bundaran HI towards Jalan Jenderal Sudirman appeared to remain passable for motorists.

UOB Plaza was designated as the point for conveying aspirations to anticipate traffic congestion and maintain public activity in the area.

A number of students remained at the location while giving speeches and demanding that access to Bundaran HI be opened. Transjakarta busway activity near the location was also affected because part of the crowd occupied the lane.

Polda Metro Jaya deployed 9,242 personnel to secure the series of demonstrations in Jakarta. Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the thousands of personnel were deployed to several points in Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, and South Jakarta.
