Student charged with drug use

BOGOR (JP): A prosecutor demanded on Wednesday that the Bogor
District Court sentence Rino Siswanto, 22, a college student, to
two years in prison for narcotics abuse.

Rino was apprehended on June 4 for allegedly using putaw (low-
grade heroin) in a boarding house in Kampung Bakbis in Kebon
Kelapa, Central Bogor.

"The defendant was caught using putaw and injected the stuff
into his body. Such heroin use is in direct violation of article
85 of Law No. 22/1997 on Narcotics," prosecutor Tuasikal said at
the hearing.

Rino told the media after the hearing that he was using drugs
along with seven friends.

"My friend Dudi was already given a one-and-a-half-year
sentence," he said.

The group admitted to obtaining the drugs from a dealer in
Kampung Bali in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. (24/edt)
