Student caught stealing

BOGOR (JP): Police arrested on Friday a student of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture for stealing computer hardware from the campus.

Bogor Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Bambang Wasgito said on Saturday that Rahmat, a 23-year-old technical agriculture student, broke into the campus early on Friday.

Police confiscated from the suspect two modems, one adaptor, four hard drives, two RAMs, one VGA card, one sound card, one Ethernet, 10 keyboards and one mine board, among other items.

The stolen items were valued at some Rp 75 million.

Rahmat and three accomplices were hiding on the fourth floor of a building on campus when security guards patrolling the area uncovered the theft, Bambang said.

The security guards then notified the police, who arrived at the campus with dogs.

Rahmat's three accomplices managed to escape, but Bambang said the police had their identities.

Bambang said the four suspects jumped over a wall, entered the building through the roof and then smashed several windows to steal the computer hardware.

Police are investigating the possibility that Rahmat and his accomplices were involved in similar crimes on the campus. (21/emf)
