Student burned by jealous girl

JAKARTA (JP): A postgraduate student died on Wednesday night after receiving treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for severe burns, allegedly inflicted upon him by a jealous girlfriend two weeks ago.

Police said the victim, John Bosco Handa Ramaris, 50, a sociology student of the University of Indonesia (UI), was found two weeks ago by his dormitory friends, screaming in pain in his room, with his entire body alight in flames.

John screamed to his friends, "Stop that girl! Stop her!" but as the dorm students tried to stop her, Juma simply said: "Do not interfere. This is our business!"

Juma ran out of the dormitory, hailed a passing bus, got on and vanished.

Nobody managed to get hold of her.

Juma reportedly found out that John was a married man who had fathered a kid in Irian Jaya.

Police found a fuel-filled jerry can at the crime scene and Juma's sandals, which she had left behind.

Morgue employee at the hospital, Rachmat, said on Thursday that John's family and friends took his corpse from the morgue at 4 p.m., to return it to John's hometown in Irian Jaya.
