Student beaten by 30 peers and a campus senior: Will Undip impose sanctions?

Semarang — Diponegoro University (Undip) condemned the assault and mob beating of Arnendo, a 20-year-old Anthropology programme student at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FCS), Undip, which is alleged to have been carried out by a campus senior. Undip said it would thoroughly investigate the case and proceed with the harshest sanctions for those found to have engaged in violence. ‘Undip is deeply concerned about the condition of Arnendo and prays for a speedy recovery so that he can resume his activities,’ said Nurul Hasfi, Director of the Directorate for Media Networking, Community, and Public Communication at Undip, in a statement received by Republika on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Nurul said the alleged assault against Arnendo occurred outside academic hours and away from the campus. Nevertheless, Undip condemned the incident. ‘Therefore, Undip will study this incident comprehensively and proceed in accordance with applicable regulations,’ Nurul added. He said Undip has formed an ethics team to oversee the case. ‘Currently Undip has formed an ethics team to oversee this matter and will impose the strongest sanctions on those found to have engaged in violence in accordance with the regulations,’ he said. Nurul noted that Undip trusts and respects the ongoing legal process, and that they actively monitor and push the legal process to ensure it runs objectively and transparently. This is expected to yield the fairest possible decision for those involved.
