Student at UIN Suska Riau Hacked by Fellow Student, Allegedly Triggered by Romantic Issues
An act of violence broke out at the State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim (UIN Suska) Riau on Thursday. A student became the victim of a brutal hacking attack carried out by a fellow student right in front of the faculty room.
The incident occurred while the victim was preparing to take part in an important academic stage. Dimas, one of the students who was at the location, recounted the tense atmosphere when the perpetrator attacked the victim using a sharp weapon.
“Initially, the victim was waiting for the proposal session in the Faculty of Sharia and Law. We were studying in the next room. When we looked out, we saw the perpetrator hacking the victim in front of the room. We didn’t dare to help because the perpetrator was carrying an axe,” said Dimas, quoted by Antara, Thursday (26/2).
The action was stopped after campus security (Satripam) quickly arrived at the location and arrested the perpetrator before a more fatal attack could be launched.
The police moved quickly to handle this case. The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pekanbaru Police, AKP Anggi Rian Diansyah, confirmed that the perpetrator is currently being held in a cell for further investigation.
“The perpetrator has been secured at the Binawidya Police Station along with evidence of a sharp weapon in the form of an axe and a machete. Currently, we are still investigating the motive and chronology of the incident,” said AKP Anggi.
As a result of the attack, the victim suffered serious injuries to the head and hands. After receiving first aid at the Bhayangkara Hospital in Pekanbaru, the victim is planned to be referred to a hospital with more complete facilities due to the depth of the injuries.
Regarding the reason behind the perpetrator’s actions, the police indicated that there was an initial indication of a romantic issue.
“It is suspected that it was triggered by a personal matter related to a romantic relationship, but we are still investigating the motive and chronology,” said AKP Anggi. (Ant/P-4)
