Student at SMAN 5 Bandung Dies in Suspected Mass Assault
BANDUNG — The Head of the West Java Regional Education Service Branch VII, Asep Yudi, confirmed that a student from SMAN 5 Bandung died in a suspected mass assault involving several students on Jalan Cihampelas, Bandung, in the early hours of 14 March 2026. The victim was identified as Muhammad Fahdly Arjasubrata, a Year 11 student.
“Based on information that on Saturday evening there was an incident that resulted in a teenager’s death, it turned out to be a student allegedly from SMAN 5, and after confirmation this was correct,” he said this past weekend.
However, he stated that his office had not yet received information about whether the victim’s death was caused by a fight or other factors. He said the matter was still being investigated by police authorities.
“But essentially, after we confirmed with the school that it is true that a student from SMAN 5 died in the Cihampelas area. However, the trigger factors are still being investigated by police,” he said.
Earlier, video footage showing a mass assault between students from SMAN 5 and SMAN 2 Bandung on Jalan Cihampelas went viral on social media. The incident took place on Friday 13 March 2026 at night until the early hours of Saturday 14 March 2026.
In the circulating video footage, students were seen fighting and engaging in mutual assault. One young man was seen lying on the roadside.
When confirmed, Coblong Sector Police Chief Kompol Riki Erickson verified that a mass assault incident between students from SMAN 5 Bandung and SMAN 2 Bandung had occurred on Friday 13 March 2026. As a result of the incident, one student from SMAN 5 Bandung died.
“Preliminary indication (of the mass assault) involved students from SMAN 5 Bandung and SMAN 2 Bandung,” he said on Saturday 14 March 2026.
He stated that as a result of the incident, one person died — a student from SMAN 5 Bandung. The incident took place on Friday 13 March 2026 at night until Saturday 14 March 2026.
“Yes, a student from SMAN 5 Bandung died,” he said.
He noted that the case is currently being handled by Polrestabes Bandung.
