A video of a student at Islamic Primary School (MI) PUI Desa Cipeundeuy, Bantarujeg District, Majalengka Regency, complaining that his free nutrition meal (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) consisted only of roasted sweet potato has gone viral on social media. In the video recorded at his home, the student, wearing a black peci and school uniform, raised his complaint to West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi.

Speaking plainly, he stated that the MBG menu he received was only roasted sweet potato in a plastic container, which he was told was meant for two days of consumption. “Greetings to you, Governor Dedi, this is from MI PUI Cipeundeuy Bantarujeg. The free nutrition meal was only roasted sweet potato. This is supposed to be for two days, and I’ve been waiting for it,” the student said in the video. The footage triggered various reactions from social media users, ranging from concern to criticism of the programme’s implementation.

In response to the viral video, Intan Diena Khoerunisa, Coordinator of the Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) in Majalengka, provided clarification. She explained that the incident occurred due to an error in the food distribution process from the MBG kitchen to the school.

According to Intan, on that same day, there was indeed one food delivery from the SPPG kitchen. However, the meal was distributed in two separate containers or bags.

At that time, the student in question only collected the container containing roasted sweet potato and went straight home. Meanwhile, the other food container had not been picked up because the student had already left.

“This is the complete menu, according to the SPPG report. There was indeed a distribution error, but the missing items were subsequently delivered on the same day,” said Intan.

She explained that during the food distribution, the school was also conducting a charity distribution event. As a result, the MBG distribution process encountered several obstacles.

Consequently, some students left before receiving all the meals they were supposed to get. “However, the student subsequently returned to collect the meal he had not previously received from the local MBG kitchen,” she said.
