Student Allegedly Hit by Stray Bullet at Padang State University

An incident occurred at the Padang State University (UNP) campus on Tuesday evening (2/6). Two people were rushed to the hospital shortly after shots were heard being fired. While there has been no detailed explanation regarding the incident, university officials have confirmed that students were injured.

“It is true that there is a UNP student who was allegedly hit by a stray bullet,” said the Secretary of UNP, Erianjoni, to reporters. He noted that two people were hit: one a student and the other a member of a student’s family. The injured student is from the Sociology department.

Erianjoni explained that the suspected stray bullet incident took place in the afternoon around the Rectorate area, following a celebration for the results of a seminar proposal examination. “The students were celebrating the completion of their Seminar Proposal with joy alongside their peers. Then, they were hit by a stray bullet. The student is female. The other victim is a family member who was waiting for their sibling,” he said.

The university is currently assisting the student, who was hit by the suspected stray bullet, at a private hospital in Padang to ensure they receive intensive medical care. No detailed explanation regarding the origin of the gunfire has been provided yet.
