Stronger US Dollar Pushes Up Laptop Prices in Indonesia
The strengthening US dollar and dependence on global supply chains are beginning to push up laptop prices in Indonesia. This condition is forcing manufacturers to adjust device prices to maintain operational stability amid currency fluctuations.
Acer Indonesia Product Manager Matius John Tirtawirya confirmed that the rising dollar exchange rate has a direct impact on production and distribution costs. This is due to the industry’s reliance on technology components that mostly originate from global supply chains.
“Yes, laptop prices have become slightly higher,” John said during an exclusive hands-on session for the latest generation Predator Gaming Aspire 7 Pro in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In response to these economic pressures, Acer is striving to maintain consumer purchasing power by emphasising value for money. One strategic move is the launch of the Aspire 7 line, designed to meet performance needs while remaining competitively priced.
Beyond product line adjustments, Acer is also intensifying various promotional programmes. This step is taken to ensure that price increases do not become a barrier for consumers who need devices for work and daily activities.
John noted that consumers in Indonesia, particularly in the mainstream segment, are highly sensitive to price changes. Therefore, the availability of affordable products remains a priority for the company amid global cost pressures.
Despite the price increases, Acer has not observed drastic changes in consumer purchasing patterns. According to John, the need for computing devices remains high in certain segments.
“The trend is not really significant, because for certain segments there is a definite target market that will buy because the need is already there,” he explained.
As a long-term solution, Acer is offering specification flexibility. The company provides products that allow users to upgrade components in the future, so consumers do not need to replace the entire unit when performance requirements increase.
This situation underscores that value-for-money considerations are now the main determining factor for Indonesians before deciding to purchase a new laptop amid global economic uncertainty.
