Strong Winds Push Jatiwaringin Landfill Smoke Towards Rajeg Mulya

The fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, remains unextinguished, with officials reporting strengthening winds on Friday afternoon. According to the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), aerial monitoring shows the wind is pushing smoke towards the east, specifically the Rajeg Mulya area. Residents have been advised to wear masks during activities to avoid respiratory issues.

Firefighting operations have entered their fourth day. A call centre officer from the BPBD and Fire Department stated that while the number of active fire spots has decreased compared to previous days, the extinguishing process is still ongoing. The main challenge remains the depth of the waste piles, where heat persists internally, prolonging the effort.

Since the fire broke out on Tuesday, 30 June, the deployment of two water-bombing helicopters and assistance from various parties has helped reduce the number of hotspots. Today, 11 to 12 fire engines are on site, and helicopters are expected to continue water-bombing operations. An initial assessment recorded that 30 families, comprising 57 individuals, have been affected by the disaster. Heavy equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders, and dump trucks, has also been deployed to assist in controlling the fire.

The Tangerang Regency Government has declared a state of emergency for the Jatiwaringin landfill fire through Regent’s Decree Number 609 of 2026, effective from 1 to 14 July 2026. All relevant agencies continue to coordinate efforts to accelerate fire control and minimise the impact on the community and the environment.
