Strong Winds Hit Six Villages in Sidrap, Seven Homes Damaged and 29 People Affected

Strong winds in Sidenreng Rappang Regency (Sidrap), South Sulawesi, damaged seven houses and affected 29 residents on Saturday night (13/6). Abdul Muhari, Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Centre at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), reported on Monday (15/6) that the windstorm, accompanied by rain, struck Sidenreng Rappang Regency at 21:05 local time on Saturday (13/6). Based on a rapid assessment, the disaster hit six villages across five sub-districts: Padangloang Village (Dua Pitue Sub-district), Lancingrang and Sumpang Mango Villages (Pitu Riawa Sub-district), Mojong Village (Watang Sidenreng Sub-district), Carawali Village (Watang Pulu Sub-district), and Kanyuara Village (Maritengngae Sub-district). Material damage was recorded as one moderately damaged house and six lightly damaged houses. The local disaster management agency (BPBD) immediately cleared debris and fallen trees and coordinated across agencies to accelerate emergency response. In response to the disaster, BNPB urged the public and local governments to enhance preparedness. Abdul Muhari stressed that if prolonged heavy rain occurs, residents must carry out self-evacuation and identify safe routes. ‘Simple steps such as trimming fragile tree branches, working together to clear waterways, and for riverside residents to regularly monitor water levels and update weather information from official agencies are very important,’ he concluded.
