Strong Winds Cause Trees to Fall on Houses and Shrines in Karangasem

The Karangasem Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has received numerous reports of fallen trees caused by strong winds today. The fallen trees have struck houses, kitchens, religious shrines (palinggih), and blocked access roads in Karangasem, Bali.

The Head of Karangasem BPBD, I Made Aditya Sugiharta, revealed that fallen trees were reported in three districts: Bebandem, Karangasem, and Selat. Sugiharta confirmed that there were no casualties in the incidents.

“As of now, the reports we have received include five incidents of fallen trees. All have been successfully handled with assistance from various parties and the community,” said Sugiharta on Sunday (30/08/2026).

Sugiharta detailed that the first incident occurred in Sibetan Village, Bebandem District. A 15-metre-tall flamboyant tree fell, blocking road access in the area. Traffic was temporarily disrupted as the tree covered the entire width of the road.

A similar incident occurred in Seraya Village, Karangasem District, where a glodok tree fell and blocked the road, triggering traffic congestion in the area.

The next incident took place in Jungutan Village, Bebandem District, where a 15-metre-tall sugar palm tree fell and struck the kitchen of I Nyoman Saba. The incident caused severe damage to the kitchen roof.

Furthermore, two other incidents occurred in Duda Utara Village, Selat District. An aren tree fell on the house and religious shrine (palinggih) belonging to I Made Suma, causing damage. Similarly, a warehouse owned by I Nyoman Arkiwa was also struck by a fallen aren tree.

“The total loss resulting from the fallen trees in several areas is approximately Rp 40 million,” stated Sugiharta.

Sugiharta urged the public to increase vigilance when engaging in activities both outdoors and indoors. According to him, the potential for trees to fall remains high due to ongoing strong winds.
