Strong waves hit fishing village

DENPASAR, Bali: Hundreds of members of fishermen's families are being sheltered at local government offices in Candikusuma district, Jembrana, about 140 kilometers west of here, after their homes were torn apart by strong waves on Tuesday.

"The waves swept the shore and the nearby village for at least two hours on Tuesday at noon and destroyed 126 houses where about 470 families lived," spokesman for the Jembara administration Wayan Artana said on Wednesday.

More rough waves hit the beach later on Tuesday night.

No fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident.
