INDONESIA: A strong earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted the city of Palu in Central Sulawesi on Saturday but there were no reports of damage or casualties, officials and police said.
The tremor struck at 10:41 a.m., with its epicenter 61 kilometers off the northeast coast of the city, said an official at the state meteorological and geophysics agency.
The quake originated 117 kilometers below sea level and was felt by residents around the city. No immediate damage or casualties were reported, a policeman there told AFP by telephone.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 can cause considerable damage in populated areas. -- AFP
