Strong Indonesian Demand Fuels Malaysia Healthcare Growth at Malaysia Fair 2026
The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), together with Tourism Malaysia, received a positive response from visitors at the Malaysia Fair Jakarta 2026, held from 4 to 7 June 2026 at Gandaria City, Jakarta. The high level of enthusiasm reflects the Indonesian public’s interest in healthcare, wellness, and tourism services in Malaysia. Held to coincide with the ‘Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026’ (MYMT 2026), which carries the theme ‘Healing Meets Hospitality’, the event brought together healthcare providers, tourism industry players, and educational institutions in one location. Visitors gained direct access to various international-standard healthcare services, a selection of tourist destinations, and educational opportunities in Malaysia.
The presence of 20 Malaysian healthcare providers, including several premier MHTC medical tourism hospitals—namely Island Hospital Penang, Institut Jantung Negara, Mahkota Medical Centre, and Subang Jaya Medical Centre—was one of the main attractions of the event. Several MHTC member hospitals also participated, including Alpha IVF & Women’s Specialists, Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, Cengild G.I Medical Centre, Damansara Specialist Hospital, Damansara Specialist Hospital 2, GenPrime Everlink Fertility Centre, Hospital Picaso, MSU Medical Centre, Northern Heart Hospital Penang, OasisEye Specialists, Optimax Eye Specialist Centre, Penang Adventist Hospital, Puteri Specialist Hospital, Regency Specialist Hospital, Sunway Medical Centre, and Sunway Medical Centre Penang.
For visitors looking to plan leisure trips, seven leading agencies offered various holiday packages, namely Dwidaya Tour, TX Travel, Habibi Tours, Baltic Golf & Travel Specialist, A&L Holidays, AWB Cruise, and Golden Rama Tours & Travel. These travel agencies were also supported by the official airline partner of Malaysia Fair Jakarta 2026, Malaysia Airlines. In addition to the healthcare and tourism sectors, several renowned higher education institutions in Malaysia also participated, including Taylor’s University, UCSI University, INTI International University, Todak Academy, and MILA University. Representatives from these institutions provided direct consultation services to prospective students and parents regarding educational opportunities in Malaysia. Through this event, visitors could explore a diverse range of specialist healthcare services, wellness programmes, tour packages, destination promotions, and engage in direct dialogue with Malaysian healthcare providers.
‘Malaysia Fair 2026 is part of an ongoing commitment to strengthen Malaysia Healthcare’s reach in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, which is one of the largest and most strategic markets for Malaysia. Through this event, we hope the Indonesian public will find it even easier to access information about trusted Malaysian healthcare services. We also want to reinforce Malaysia’s image as a preferred healthcare destination offering high quality, services that prioritise patient needs, and a smooth and comfortable treatment experience,’ said MHTC Chief Executive Officer Suriaghandi Suppiah.
Malaysia Fair 2026 was also officially opened with the presence of MHTC brand ambassador Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza. Siti Nurhaliza’s presence underscored Malaysia’s efforts in promoting the medical tourism sector, which combines healthcare excellence, hospitality, and cultural closeness. As one of Malaysia’s most recognisable public figures with a large fan base in Indonesia, Siti Nurhaliza emphasised the importance of people-to-people connections in building trust towards Malaysian healthcare services at the regional level. ‘I underwent a programme to conceive for nearly 10 years. Because of that, I understand that in the treatment process, patients not only need quality care but also support, peace of mind, and hope. As a Malaysian, I am proud to introduce the excellence of Malaysia Healthcare to our friends in Indonesia and the wider region,’ she explained.
Indonesia remains a primary market for Malaysia Healthcare. In 2025, Malaysia’s medical tourism revenue from Indonesian patients reached approximately RM2.2 billion, an increase of 23% from the previous year. The number of medical tourist arrivals from Indonesia was recorded to have grown 16% compared to 2024. In the same period, more than 970,000 medical tourists from Indonesia visited Malaysia. This figure demonstrates the high level of trust the Indonesian public has in the Malaysian healthcare system. Among the medical services most sought after by Indonesian patients are health screenings, gastroenterology, cancer treatment, endocrinology, cardiology, and orthopaedic surgery, thereby proving Malaysia’s capability in providing comprehensive specialist healthcare services for regional patients.
The event also received support from several strategic partners, namely Econolab, JavaMifi, Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel, and Batik Air. The involvement of these partners not only enriches the visitor experience but also strengthens cross-sector synergy in supporting the promotion of Malaysia Healthcare in Indonesia.
