Strong aftershock jolts Banda Aceh
BANDA ACEH: A strong aftershock measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale rattled the capital of Indonesia's tsunami-ravaged Aceh province on Monday but there were no casualties or damage reported, officials said.
The quake, which struck at 5:15 a.m., was centered under the Indian Ocean floor 78 kilometers northwest of Banda Aceh, the head of Aceh's meteorology and geophysics office, Syahnan, said.
He said that there were no reports of damage or casualties.
Aceh is still recovering from the impact of a magnitude 9.0 earthquake on December 26 that triggered deadly tsunamis. More than 200,000 people are believed dead or missing from the disaster in Aceh alone. -- AFP
