Strike postponed for a week

BANDUNG: The planned nationwide strike of train company PT Kereta Api Indonesia workers will be postponed for a week and will now start on Aug. 8.

Railway Workers Union president Amien Abdurrahman said on Thursday that the move was to give advance warning to passengers wanting to use train services to make other plans.

"(By postponing the strike for a week) it doesn't mean we're not serious about the strike, we're just following administrative requirements," Amien said.

The train workers are threatening to hold a nationwide strike after the government rejected their demands to improve the welfare of workers and retirees. -- JP
