Jakarta — The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) is leaving no room for potential security disturbances during the holy month of Ramadan. In anticipation of widespread Sahur On The Road (SOTR) activities, officers will conduct joint patrols every day throughout the fasting month.

The measure has been prepared to ensure conditions remain stable, particularly during vulnerable hours approaching the pre-dawn meal (sahur) and into the early morning. Patrols will involve all policing functions within a single integrated team.

The Head of Operations at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate, Commissioner Robby Hefados, said full force would be deployed.

“There will be a joint team patrolling SOTR every day, combining all functions,” he told reporters on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

The team will comprise personnel from traffic, criminal investigation, intelligence, general policing (samapta), mobile brigade (brimob), and community policing (binmas) units. With this complete formation, police hope to prevent illegal street racing, brawls, reckless convoys, and other criminal acts that frequently emerge during SOTR activities.

Robby explained that patrol points have already been mapped out. However, detailed location announcements will be made by the Operations Bureau, as the security effort constitutes an integrated cross-functional operation.

“The locations have certainly been mapped and will be announced by the Operations Bureau, because all Sahur On The Road activities are managed as integrated operations carried out jointly,” he said.

He further stated that patrols would not be confined to a single area. Police will move dynamically in response to developments on the ground.

“Every day the locations will shift — they won’t stay at one point,” he said.

Traffic movement patterns in Jakarta and its surrounding areas are predicted to change during Ramadan. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate has begun mapping potential congestion points, particularly during morning and afternoon hours.

Commissioner Robby Hefados disclosed that his office is still conducting analysis and forecasts regarding public mobility during the fasting month.

“Most likely, in terms of public movement during the fasting month, particularly during Ramadan, we are still carrying out analysis and predictions — especially in the morning, naturally, with the government’s policy of implementing work from anywhere (WFA) as well as office activities starting later in the day. As a result, public traffic movement in the morning will likely occur between 9 and 10 o’clock,” he said on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
