Strengthening Waste Management Governance, West Java Bapemperda Visits West Bandung
The Body for Regional Regulation Formation (Bapemperda) of the West Java DPRD continues to refine the preparation of strategic regulations, particularly in the environmental sector. This effort was carried out through a working visit to the West Bandung Regency DPRD on Thursday (26/3/2026). The visit focused on synchronising waste management policies while strengthening local legislative functions to be more responsive to societal needs. The meeting, held at the West Bandung Regency DPRD building, served as an intensive discussion forum on best practices in waste management, especially in areas with unique characteristics like West Bandung, known as a buffer region and tourist area. Chairman of the West Java DPRD Bapemperda, Sugianto Nangolah, emphasised the importance of this visit in enriching the substance of the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) currently being prepared. According to him, good regulations must be based on actual field conditions. “We want to ensure that every regulation at the provincial level aligns with the needs in regency/city areas. Collaboration with the West Bandung Regency DPRD is important to capture real issues, particularly in community-based waste management and environmental protection,” he stated. Sugianto added that West Bandung Regency has great potential to develop a sustainable independent waste processing system. This is seen as a model that can be replicated in other areas of West Java. The results of the visit, he said, will serve as material to enrich the perfection of the Raperda. Thus, the resulting regulations will not only be strong normatively but also applicable and capable of addressing current environmental challenges. Through this inter-legislative synergy, Bapemperda hopes to produce comprehensive regulations while providing concrete solutions for the community in realising a clean and sustainable environment. “The hope is that the regulations prepared truly provide real benefits for the people of West Java,” said Sugianto.
