Strengthening the National Steel Industry, Krakatau Posco Boosts Innovation in Resilient and Sustainable Construction Products
Krakatau Posco affirms its strategic role as a national steel producer capable of delivering high-quality material solutions for various industrial sectors. The company is known to have produced high-grade steel for construction needs, weathering steel, offshore structures, energy facilities, and heavy equipment.
This was emphasised by the Director of Technology & Business Development at Krakatau Posco, Alhadis Syamsuddin, during the National Seminar and Exhibition on the Steel Construction Supply Chain organised by the Indonesia Society of Steel Construction (ISSC).
Alhadis explained that the company’s strengths lie not only in its products but also in its integrated and advanced technology-based manufacturing capabilities. As an integrated steel mill, the company possesses adaptive design quality and production control capabilities, enabling precise adjustments to manufacturing processes to produce consistent and high-quality products.
In addition, the company is supported by rolling mill technology that can tightly control thickness tolerances according to project requirements. The integrated computer-based factory system also allows for real-time monitoring, the use of predictive systems, and overall production efficiency optimisation.
In terms of material quality, chemical composition control is carried out strictly to ensure every product meets the desired specifications. Krakatau Posco also adopts artificial intelligence (AI)-based inspection technology through the Surface Defect Detector (SDD) facility at the Hot Rolling Plant, which can accurately detect surface defects to maintain product quality standards.
“We will continue to deliver high-quality steel solutions that not only meet global standards but also address the specific needs of construction in Indonesia, including environmental challenges and earthquake risks. Technological innovation is key to our support for resilient and sustainable infrastructure development,” said Alhadis.
Furthermore, he stated that the company is also focusing on the development of Hi-Strength Welded Structural Steel designed for heavy construction applications such as steel bridges, high-rise buildings, and industrial structures. This material has high strength and durability, enabling it to meet the demands of projects with extreme loads and pressures.
