Strengthening the eight family functions can prevent sexual violence
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/BKKBN states that strengthening the eight family functions can prevent sexual violence as it forms a bastion of resilience for children or parents in society. Kemendukbangga/Head of BKKBN Wihaji stated that Kemendukbangga/BKKBN is authorised and responsible for family development to address various issues that could potentially bring problems related to family resilience, such as inappropriate use of technology. “For example, verbal sexual harassment occurring at one of the universities, the source must also come from mobile phone technology. This is one example that if we do not pay attention to it and allow it to happen and consider it normal, then things like this can happen anywhere and anytime. We need to re-campaign the eight family functions,” he said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday. As an effort towards planned, healthy, and quality families through a life cycle approach to improve behaviour, the approach taken is not only rational but requires an approach from the heart. Meanwhile, Acting Deputy for Community Mobilisation and Participation Wahyuniati conveyed that Kemendukbangga/BKKBN strengthens these eight family functions, one of which is through the Movement to Encourage Community Behaviour Change Towards a Resilient Indonesia through the 8 Family Functions Approach (Gempita Lentera Keluarga), which encompasses family communication, information, and education activities. These activities are based on the life cycle related to health, parenting, and equal relations, cadre training as behaviour change agents, targeted family assistance, and strengthening the social environment. “The strategy approach implemented in Gempita Lentera Keluarga includes gradual behaviour change approach, family and community-based approach, strengthening the eight family functions in society, participatory and contextual to local culture, as well as cross-sector collaboration,” said Wahyuniati.
